If you asked just about any individual to list one of the things they believe represents true natural beauty, we’re willing to bet that one thing that would go on the very top of it is healthy glowing skin. After all, if your skin is looking young, fresh and flawless, you can wear just about anything and still make a really lasting impression.
And while some people are born with skin that looks like it’s straight out of a Neutrogena ad, the reality is that the rest of us have to put a bit more work into it. Luckily, with the help of the following five tips, it’s actually not extremely hard to do.
Drink plenty of water. You’ve probably heard this tip before but it’s definitely worth repeating. Being that our bodies are made up of mostly water, in order to keep your skin hydrated and also toxin-free, it’s important to drink at least 6-8 glasses of water each day. If you’re not a huge fan of the stuff, remember there’s always mineral water (that has a bit of a fizz sensation) and that foods such as cucumber, oranges and watermelon have plenty of water inside of them too.
Time yourself in the shower. We know that it’s a bit ironic to encourage you to watch how much time you spend in the shower being that we just said that you need to drink lots of water. But the reality is that when you stand in a really hot shower for more than 10 minutes, it can start to rob your body of its natural oils. So do your skin and your energy bill a favor and opt for cooler and shorter shower times.
Exfoliate. If you happen to be someone who has acne-prone skin, one thing that you can do to help alleviate that is to do more exfoliating. That’s because pimples tend to come due to us having blockages in our pores due to an overproduction of sebum and also dead skin. There are exfoliants on the market that you can buy. Or, you can mix a bit of brown sugar with some olive oil; that combination works just as well (if not better) as a lot of commercial brands.
Watch your diet. Even if you go to some place like the Bella Sante Top Day Spa, the aftereffects are not going to last very long if you’re eating a lot of junk food. Skin tends to look its best when you treat it from the inside out, so make sure that your diet is full of “healthy skin foods” like artichokes, red grapes, watercress, tofu, salmon, brown rice, nuts, kale, avocado and garlic.
Take a multivitamin. Speaking of your diet, being that most of us don’t get the daily requirements of vitamins and minerals that our bodies need, it’s important to also take a multivitamin each day too. Whichever one you select, make sure that it is high in B-complex, Vitamin C, Vitamin E and zinc. All of these combined, over time, will have your skin looking absolutely amazing. Yes, from the inside out.
